The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife has ordered us to stop trapping moles, and trapping is the only truly effective method of control. Please note – this is NOT an “animal cruelty” issue: it is a POLITICAL issue! The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife is actively enforcing Initiative 713, enacted in 2000, which bans the use of “body gripping” traps. The intent was to stop the use of painful and cruel trapping, such as the use of leg traps for coyotes. We heartily agree with this! The initiative contained an exemption for common rat and mouse traps. However, it failed to do so for mole and gopher traps. And your legislators have been wrangling over the issue ever since. It might seem an easy and common-sense solution to simply add an exemption for this type of traps -- both sides of the debate agree that these traps kill quickly, that moles are severe pests in lawns, and that they are unprotected. But the issue is apparently MUCH more complicated than that, POLITICALLY. With this technicality being enforced, Mole in One and companies like it are unable to provide the most effective service to our customers. We are forced to rely on less-effective methods of mole control, such as baiting and chemical deterrents. It’s all your government will allow us to do, until the politicians are able to find a way to agree that you have a right to the pest control methods that work the best! If you feel, as we do, that this situation is intolerable – please contact your state legislator, at:
