More Than a Nuisance — Don’t Let Danger In

When rodents enter a home, it’s more than an annoyance. Rats and mice carry more than 35 diseases that can affect humans. These diseases include:

  • Hantavirus
  • Leptospirosis
  • Lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCMV)
  • And more

Their dried feces, urine, and even saliva can spread germs in the dust that can infect anyone who comes into contact with it. In addition to health concerns, rodents can gnaw on electrical wires, resulting in fires.

Signs of a Rodent Infestation

Our specialized rodent inspection experts are trained to track down infestations in the most inaccessible and hazardous areas of structures. They understand how rodents behave, what they’re capable of, and how they move through homes and businesses. You might need a professional if you:

  • See rodent droppings in places like closets or cabinets.

  • Hear scratching or squeaking noises coming from walls, ceilings, and floors.

  • Find gnaw marks on items like cardboard boxes, packaged food, stored items, and bins.

  • See paw prints on dusty surfaces.

  • Smell foul odors in hard-to-access parts of your home.

  • Spot a rodent scurrying through your home.

If you see, smell or hear any of these signs, then you should schedule a rodent inspection immediately. Eastside Exterminators rodent inspections are always performed by a licensed pest control operator, so you get the best service possible.

Ready to get rid of rodents today? You need an expert team who knows how rodents think!

Schedule Your Appointment Today

A tiny intruder can turn into a big problem for homeowners. Prevent potential damages, dangerous diseases, and allergens by trusting our rodent control in Washington today. Preventative home maintenance can save you money in the long run, and our extensive four-step rodent process provides you with successful elimination and ongoing protection.

Step 1: Rodent Inspection

Our trained rodent exterminators will carefully and thoroughly inspect your entire home to identify all current and potential entry points. For homes under 3,000 square feet, this inspection can typically take up to three hours. Our rodent exterminators will inspect:

  • Crawl spaces
  • Attics
  • Roofs
  • Exterior perimeter
  • Garages
  • Basements
  • Underneath decks
  • Structures attached to homes
  • And the interior of your home

Photos and videos may be taken of any rodent damage and entry points, then traps will be set up in all infested areas by our rodent exterminators. A detailed report and a map of your property will be provided to you by the technician, who will walk you through all the findings and recommendations for how to solve your rodent issue.

Step 2: Exclusion Repairs

Schedule Your Exclusion Repairs

Our next step is to keep rodents out of your home through exclusion repairs. Your rodent inspector will prepare a detailed report and map to give to our trained exclusion technician. Following this detailed plan, the exclusion technician will make all necessary repairs to seal all current and potential entry points using rodent-proof material. During this stage, we will also:

  • Check rodent trapping systems installed by the rodent exterminator
  • Remove any rodents that have been captured
  • Re-bait and re-set the trapping system.

Step 3: Home Protection with a Follow-Up Inspection

After the exclusion repairs have been made, Eastside will send out one of our follow-up inspectors to re-inspect all exclusions repairs made to the home and carefully scour your property for any new entry or exit points made by rodents. Any remaining trapped rodents will be removed from your home and our exterior rodent protection system will be set up according to your home’s specific layout.

Step 4: Sanitation

Once rodents have been evicted from your home, we’ll bring in our team of trained sanitation experts to remove all rodent-contaminated materials by following a detailed sanitation report provided by our rodent exterminator. To begin, we will remove all damaged insulation. After the contaminated insulation has been removed, we will clean up:

  • Rodent feces

  • Nesting sites

  • Damaged plastic vapor barriers

  • And more

After we have removed, sanitized, and deodorized the affected areas, we will then reinstall new, up-to-code insulation materials. Our goal is to leave your home in better condition than we found it!

How Exclusion Fits into Rodent Removal

Rodent exclusion is the second step in our proven four-step rodent control process. The appointment for an exclusion technician to seal all entry points around your home or business follows the initial inspection. Your exclusion technician will follow the detailed map in the rodent exclusion report your inspector created to seal all identified entry points.

While doing so, the exclusion technician will also check the trapping systems set up in the initial inspection. If necessary, the exclusion technician will remove any rodents caught in the traps, and reset them. And once this work is complete, Eastside Exterminators can proceed to helping you with long-term rodent protection.

Why Our Rodent Exclusion Services are Superior

Effective rodent exclusion for homes and businesses demands extensive knowledge of how rats and mice behave, and what they’re capable of. Moreover, it requires an understanding of typical construction practices in order to make the best use of rodent-proof materials. That’s why Eastside Exterminators rodent exclusion technicians must complete a 12-week course learning the ins and outs of the process.

The Eastside Exterminators rodent exclusion course includes a mix of classroom education and on-the-job training. We cover everything about rodents themselves, best practices for repairing rodent entry points, and proper installation of rodent exclusion systems. This ensures our technicians know how to handle challenges that are different from one structure—and species—to the next. All this is to say that rodent exclusion doesn’t simply mean going around a structure slapping on a few screens--there’s science behind what we do, and we apply it to our entire wildlife control system.

How Rodent Damage Happens

One common phenomenon here in the Pacific Northwest is rats burrowing underground to enter houses. Over time, this can cause foundations and concrete pier pads to sink, which are both serious issues. It can also lead to other problems like uneven floors, cracked tiles, and doors that don’t shut correctly. This type of rodent behavior occurs so often in our part of the country that most crawl spaces require what is known as a rat slab.

A rat slab is a strip of concrete that is poured into the base of crawl spaces. Rats can eat through a lot of materials, but concrete isn’t one of them. Hence, the slab stops rats and other rodents from entering houses via underground burrows, and causing rodent damage inside.

Rodents also find ways into structures through your siding, roof, and any areas with a small breach they can exploit. It doesn’t take big vulnerabilities in structural integrity for rodents to sense a safe haven to build their nests in. Because it’s easy for you to miss these signs in your day-to-day life, getting a regular rodent inspection is a good idea!

The Many Types of Rodent Damage

Rodent damage can impact a whole range of things across your property, in all kinds of ways. Whether it takes the form of biological waste, electrical faults, structural damage to buildings and furniture, or merely tainted food. Some major rodent problems to look out for include:

  • Nesting rodents can shred and trample insulation in the walls, floor, attic, or heat ducts, and soak it in their urine and feces.
  • Contamination of foodstuffs and other stored goods when rodents gain access to pantries.
  • Holes in drywall, sheetrock, plastic vapor barriers, and plumbing pipes, which can cause water damage.
  • Destruction of furniture and structural features due to rodents chewing through wood.
  • Greater risk of fire and electrical outages after rodents gnaw on wiring for household devices such as smoke alarms.

Particularly where insulation is concerned, rodent damage can be expensive and have serious consequences for your family. That’s why cleaning up this damage is the final step in our 4-step removal process, after completing rodent protection.
