12 Pests of Christmas: Seven Stinkbugs Reeking!

On the seventh day of Christmas, my PMP found for me ...
Seven stinkbugs reeking,
Six beetles bustling,
Five stinging wasps,
Four crawling ants,
Three bed bugs,
Two black spiders,
And a rat chewing on my Christmas lights!

Roasting chestnuts, mulled cider, nutmeg and cinnamon, pine -- the scents of the holidays are unmistakable. But one nasty stinkbug can overpower your entire home's aroma. The number of stinkbugs are on the rise in the Seattle area, but there are ways to stop a winter stinkbug infestation before it begins.

Although stinkbugs are harmless, they are irritating, invasive and gross. If these shield-shaped pests have already infiltrated your home, call us now at 425-482-2100 to take care of it. Our certified pest experts will make sure no stinkbugs are around to muck up your holiday festivities.

If you want to keep stinkbugs out before they get in, here are a few tips.

How to Prevent a Winter Stinkbug Infestation

Like humans, stinkbugs are looking for a dry, warm place to hunker down for the winter. Your home is an inviting place for them to invade. The first step to keep out stinkbugs this winter is to seal up possible entry points where they can get in your house. Cracks, gaps, nooks, crannies and crevices -- especially along exterior walls -- should be caulked or otherwise sealed to keep out stinkbugs.

Additionally, keep your windows, doors and screens shut whenever you can. This isn't as much of an issue in cold months, but leaving your door open to carry in Christmas gifts or groceries from the car can give stinkbugs a way into your home.

No Need to Fear the Stinkbug

You may have heard that stinkbugs are harmless, but it's worth repeating. Stinkbugs don't present any health or safety issues to people of any age. These pests get their name from the distinctive odor they emit when squished, but even that smell is not dangerous. Stinkbugs may look bug and scary, and the sound of them flying is impossible to miss, but these pests can't hurt you.

Nonetheless, a stinkbug invasion is something no one wants this winter.
